The Emergency Braking Test checks whether a learner rider can stop safely and quickly in an emergency without losing control.

Rules & requirements

Keep these points in mind before and during the exercise.

  • Remaining faults are allowed in this test. See the Motorcycle test faults document for more details.
  • Time limit: 25 seconds (examiner will inform riders if applied).
  • Stop precisely between the End of Test cones, without locking wheels.

The required speed depends on the motorcycle category.

Autocycle
Repealed – No longer in driving test.
A1 motorcycle
45 km/h
A2 & A motorcycle
50 km/h
